xTool Devil1 PoC Upgrade Support

Intro

Ok, friends, it’s time to upgrade your Devil1 PoC versions to Production Edition. From your original kit, all you will be reusing is the control board, and the LCD. Why did I do it this way? So that every Devil1 will be exactly the same. It’s a whole lot easier to support. This means that you’re going to have some spare parts, to do with whatever you want. Stepper motor cables will still work, limit switches might, the module cable mostly will (no red cross hair support).

As a general rundown of the upgrade, first we take apart the PoC version, add some parts to the control board, install the control board, connect up all the wires, close up the chassis, install the LCD in its chassis, and install it on the main chassis. After that, you can take the optional firmware below.  Even if not you must update your machine settings with the lbset file below

FAQ

  1. How do I used Devil1 with XCS?
    • No xTool software is supported for Devil1
  2. How do I get the red cross hair to turn on/off?
    • The red Guide Light switch on the front of the Devil1 unit controls the red cross hair
  3. Why did my Devil1 not turn on?
    • Most often, this is because one of the old limit switches from the PoC edition was used instead of the new ones provided in the kit.  Use only the new limit switches.
  4. How can I make “Home” a different place?
  5. What is this Assistmate thing?
    • Asssitmate for Devil1 automates your air assist, allowing you to toggle your air assist pump on/off automatically in Lightburn

Troubleshooting

  1. The limit switch on the left side of the gantry isn’t coming in contact with the module carrier
    • Press and hold the button on the limit switch, gently bend the arm of the limit switch out slightly from the free end, and test connection with the module carrier.
  2. The module is moving opposite of the direction is should
    • The lbset file was not loaded correctly.  See above for the correct file.
  3. My Devil1 doesn’t power on after installing the upgrade
    • Most often, this is caused by using the old limit switches.  Not all PoC units were made identically, so you must use all of the new parts that were in the kit
