xTool D1 20W Upgrade Kit for all of you D1 owners looking to finally get power above 10W. Though abandoned by xTool two years ago, Geeks At Large brings you this module kit which includes everything needed to upgrade your machine. Unlike the original 20W modules from xTool, our module brings a nice fine focal point of 0.08×0.08mm to play. This is equal to the 10W and 5W module in terms of intricate cuts and engravings. The module also has an integrated air assist. If you already have air assist, just connect the tubing to the new module and you’re set.
Before selecting this module for out kit, we did a lot of testing. A LOT of testing. When tested with a calibrated output meter, the modules stayed within 99% of spec over the course of an hour at full output. This far exceeds with OEM versions, which started out at 92% of their rated output and dropped to less than 80% over the same amount of time. Cuts and engravings were cleaner, and with more detail.
For the dovetail on the back, we went with metal rather than trying to go with something 3D printed. The fit is perfect, as tested on our three machines and the machines of multiple beta testers who were asked to spend some time with the units and provide feedback. It’s worth mentioning that our 20W module is also physically smaller and lighter weight than the original.
Access to the internals of the module is easy peasy – remove four screws to slide off the exterior housing, allowing you to clean the fans, heatsinks, and other parts easily.
Additional testing was done with both xTool Creative Suite (XCS) and Lightburn. Both software sets had no issues controlling the modules for both cutting and engraving.
There are some things to be aware of before buying though:
- These modules do not have the red light indicator for framing like the OEM versions. Rather, they use the laser spot itself for framing.
- The shield is not removable, it’s built into the frame.
