M3 Essentials Metal Fence & Positioning Jig Kit
Position it. Engrave it. Replace it. Repeat.
The Geeks At Large M3 Essentials is a configurable metal fence, alignment jig and fixture system designed for the xTool F1, xTool F1 Lite, xTool F2, Longer Nano and Longer Nano Pro laser engravers.
Whether you’re running a batch of business cards, positioning coasters, aligning dog tags, engraving wallets or simply trying to put the next workpiece exactly where the previous one was, M3 Essentials gives you solid physical reference surfaces that can be quickly configured around your work.
And unlike the many 3D-printed fence and positioning kits available for these machines, M3 Essentials is manufactured from powder-coated steel.
We Started With 3D Printing, Too
3D printing is a fantastic way to develop and test an idea. In fact, early versions of our own fixture system were 3D printed while we refined the shapes, combinations and positioning options.
But we didn’t want our production fixture system to stop there.
M3 Essentials is manufactured from 3 mm steel and finished with a durable powder coating.
The result is a rigid, low-profile, magnetic fixture system designed as a reusable shop tool rather than a printed accessory.
No printed layers. No plastic fixture edges. Just solid steel where you’re actually using a laser.
Why Metal?
A laser engraving fixture spends its life immediately next to an active laser. We think that’s a pretty good place to use metal.
Rigid Reference Surfaces
A positioning fixture is only useful if it provides a dependable reference. Steel gives M3 Essentials solid, rigid edges for positioning your work.
Low-Profile 3 mm Construction
The 3 mm design keeps the fixture close to the work surface, particularly useful with thin materials and applications where you want to minimize interference around the laser’s working area.
Heat Resistant
Steel doesn’t soften from heat like common 3D-printing plastics can.
Accidentally put the laser somewhere you didn’t intend? We’d rather have steel sitting there than plastic.
Magnetic
The steel construction means magnets can be used directly with the fixture pieces whenever they’re useful for your setup.
Durable
M3 Essentials is designed for repeated everyday use as shop tooling.
Low Profile. Stackable. Configurable.
The 3 mm thickness is intentional.
Use a single layer when you want the lowest possible profile, or stack compatible pieces using the included hardware when the job calls for something different.
3 mm — Low-Profile Positioning
Use a single layer as a fence, stop, corner guide or positioning reference.
This is particularly useful for thin materials and applications where keeping the fixture low and out of the laser path is important.
6 mm — Stack Two Pieces
Stack compatible pieces to create a 6 mm-high reference edge for thicker workpieces.
But stacking isn’t limited to making a taller fence.
The upper piece can also be positioned over the edge of your workpiece and used as a hold-down, helping keep the material located while you engrave.
So the same components can become a low-profile fence, taller positioning surface, or material hold-down depending on how you configure them.
One fixture system. Different jobs.
Built for Repeatable Positioning
xTool’s own F1 positioning system is intended to help place material in the same position repeatedly during batch processing. M3 Essentials takes that basic concept considerably further.
Instead of one fixed positioning piece, M3 Essentials gives you a configurable collection of fences, stops and guides that can be arranged around your work.
Set the fixture.
Position your work.
Engrave.
Remove the finished piece, place the next one against the same references, and repeat.
For batch engraving, that means less time spent positioning each individual blank and a physical reference for placing the next piece.
One Kit. Lots of Jobs.
M3 Essentials isn’t a collection of dedicated jigs that only work with one particular blank.
Configure the fixture around the job instead.
Depending upon your setup, the pieces can function as:
- Straight fences
- Corner guides
- Positioning stops
- Alignment guides
- Material hold-downs
- Fixture guides
- Batch-processing references
- Taller stacked fences
Use the system to help position metal business cards, coasters, wallets, dog tags, jewelry, pendants, tags, small signs and countless other engraving blanks.
You’re not limited to the objects someone else decided to design a dedicated jig around.
Configure It Your Way
There isn’t one “correct” M3 Essentials setup.
Arrange the components according to the size and shape of the workpiece in front of you.
Need a corner reference?
Build one.
Need a straight fence?
Build one.
Need stops on multiple sides?
Put them where you need them.
Need additional height?
Stack them.
Need to keep a workpiece down?
Configure an upper piece as a hold-down.
That’s the advantage of a configurable fixture system instead of a collection of single-purpose jigs.
Machine Compatibility
M3 Essentials is designed for the mounting system used by the original xTool F-series platform and Longer Nano machines, but work with any machine which uses M3 threaded holes in the base plate..
Compatible With
xTool F1
xTool F1 Lite
xTool F2
Longer Nano
Longer Nano Pro
Longer itself emphasizes accurate object positioning and alignment as part of repeatable engraving on its Nano platform.
Not Compatible With
xTool F1 Ultra
xTool F2 Ultra
xTool F2 Ultra UV
These machines use a different mounting configuration.

Why M3 Essentials?
M3 Essentials was designed to provide the most useful fixture configurations while keeping the system low profile, simple and affordable.
It isn’t simply a thinner version of our Premium system.
The 3 mm steel construction gives Essentials its own advantages: keep it low when clearance matters, or stack compatible components when you need additional height or a hold-down.
For users who want the expanded component set and additional fixture combinations, see our M3 Premium Fixture Kit.
Both systems follow the same principle:
Put the work where you want it. Keep putting it there.

From Prototype to Production
M3 Essentials wasn’t created as another generic 3D-printed laser accessory.
It began as a working fixture concept, was developed and refined using 3D-printed prototypes, and then moved into professional manufacturing using powder-coated steel.
The result is a configurable fence kit, alignment jig, positioning aid, fixture guide and hold-down system built for the environment where you’re actually going to use it:
